Consumption vs Creation

Donna Teuber did a presentation for principals from our district on Digital Literacy and the CCSS. The session generated some good discussions.  She closed out her session with the slide above and had the principals talk about what they see in their schools.  Overwhelmingly they agreed students were more consumers than creators of information.

When talking about the road blocks to creation here are some of the reasons given for the lack of  time spent on creation:

• Not enough time 
• Teachers need more training on how
• Need to cover content and prep for end of year test

No new road blocks here.  I'm sure no matter what question you ask about why something isn't happening in a classroom these are the responses you will get.  The question is what can change?
